Raphael Defert

An expert in risk management and safety, Raphaël Defert has been conducting a wide range of studies and assessments for over 25 years.

In the field of underground infrastructure safety, he has played an active role in studies for over a hundred road and rail/metro tunnels in France, Switzerland and abroad: safety concepts, hazard studies, quantitative risk assessments, fire modeling, operating organization, emergency plans, drills, feedback, etc.

He is also an accredited CNESOR expert for road tunnels. An active member of the World Road Association's Tunnel Committee, he plays an active role in developing methods, guides and models for national and international bodies.

In the field of industrial risks/OPAM, he has carried out over a hundred studies in Switzerland and France. He also carries out numerous FDMS (Reliability Availability Maintainability Safety) risk analyses for complex systems. Finally, he participates in numerous studies related to the risks associated with new energies.

Author of numerous publications in the field of tunnel safety and a professional trainer, he has also been teaching Risk Management at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne for the past 10 years.
